As far a Linux is concerned, out of the old drivers you can only use 3 drivers hostapd:
Work is currently underway to add support to mac80211. This support will be different, however, instead of using Wireless-Extensions, it will use nl80211.
Getting hostapd
You can get the latest release of hostapd from:
git://w1.fi/srv/git/hostap.git
Using hostapd with nl80211 requires you to have at least libnl-1.0 pre8 as this release introduced genl, Generic Netlink, which nl80211 relies on. Most distributions aren't shipping this yet. You'll have to download and compile libnl-1.0-pre8 yourself for now.
